WHAT IS HORMONE SPIRAL?

 

Hormonal spiral; It is a kind of intrauterine device that contains the progesterone hormone called "levonorgestel" and is effective locally in the uterus.

 

It is used both as a contraceptive method and in the treatment of abnormal bleeding. Significantly reduces menstrual bleeding; It reduces menstrual bleeding by 80% at the end of 6 months and 90% at the end of 1 year.

 

HOW IS HORMONE SPIRAL APPLIED AND WHAT IS THE PERIOD OF USE?

 

Whether the hormonal spiral is suitable for the person is determined by the obstetrician and is applied during the menstrual period when there is no suspicion of pregnancy.

Anesthesia is usually not required during the procedure, but it can be inserted with mild sedo-analgesia in anxious patients. After the patient is taken to the gynecological table, a vaginal speculum is placed and the cervix is made visible. After proper cleaning of the cervix, the spiral is inserted into the uterus.

There may be mild groin pain for 3 days after the procedure, in which case appropriate painkillers can be used. It should be controlled by gynecological examination in the 1st month after the application.

 

The usage period of the hormonal spiral is 5 years.

-Pregnancy
-Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
-Risk of cervical or breast cancer
-People who have or have had an infection in the pelvic area
-People with liver disease or at risk for liver tumors
-Allergy to the hormone emitted from the hormonal spiral
